Oh also shout out for his last one The Shepherds Crown which he wrote while planning his doctor assisted suicide and made me straight up cry 10 pages in. I reread the whole set every couple of years and they still hit just as well. Small gods probably had more influence on my religious beliefs than any religious text growing up and Mort made me realize just how deep these tiny comedic fantasy novels were. The last one is second in the series so not a good start but I learned more about economics than a full college course off of it. I'll also note my favorites are Small Gods, Mort, and Making Money. Any book you read will feel a bit like you're missing context but that's normal because there's just so much detail in Discworld. While all 40 something are in the same universe and reference each other they're organized around either mini series or standalone books so as long as you're doing the first in the miniseries you should be good (Goodreads is pretty helpful to figure out which is in which series). Since they're his earlier work though they're also usually the weakest of his so if you want one that shows a lot more of his style I'd say Guards Guards or Going Postal or even the first in the Tiffany Aching series. If you're coming from high fantasy you might be better suited starting with his earlier work like The Colour of Magic or Equal Rights which are more classic fantasy hero/coming of age stories but still with his humor sprinkled in.
